A friend of mine asked me to design some message cards for their new baby daughter. The solution was to create a stamp design. I liked this because of the traditional, hand-printed feel you get from them, giving it a more personal touch. A bespoke logotype with a subtle Indian flavour was created for Vivienne Frances Pujji, which became the design for the stamp.</description>

		<description>The Limited Service Volunteers program is an army styled boot camp for troubled youth. In order to encourage registration for the course it seemed more appropriate to communicate to the target audience in a more familiar medium. Spray paint. “Banksy” styled illustrations were produced and applied to posters, brochures and a range of other items.

		<description>Each region of the Ministry publishes a report once a year. The task for this job was to create a consistent look across all the reports but provide differentiation between regions. The solution was to create illustrated titles that incorporated iconic imagery unique to each region.

		<description>The International Arts Festival is a biannual event and each time it is held it is re-branded - with the only constant being the inclusion of the Kiwi. The concept we put around the 06 brand was the idea of bringing colour into your life through culture. This was realised through the form of a colour swatch book which became the Kiwi’s tail which in turn informed the complete brand expression. The material required for the festival was vast - from buses and 30m billboards, to posters, programmes and airport walkways.

		<description>My clients came to me and asked me to create something around the theme of Mr Men. The challenge was to create something elegant and sophisticated enough for a wedding invitation. Stylised versions of the Mr Men characters were created – teamed with a modern typeface sympathetic to the shape and form of the characters. One colour hand-pulled screen prints.

		<description>In a financially turbulent period Auckland International Airport moved it’s Annual Report into the online space. Given that a printed version was still required, the client needed a report that still had the presense and authority, but at the same time was not too glossy or overly embellished. The newspaper format provided the ideal solution. It still maintained the impact, but was cost-effective to produce, and in a lean period conveyed a prudent approach.

		<description>A whole new range of brand photography was created to provide material for telling a wider brand story. This was used on packaging as well as marketing and promotional items. Each beer varietal had it’s own wordmark created in a unique way, visually formed from the New Zealand environment or found within it. The idea being that each image evokes a sense of place and time – an occasion and a connection to the land. Building on the pioneering West Coast heritage.

		<description>The packaging is where the Monteith's brand comes to life and it was a particularly challenging task to revitalise and modernise such a well loved range. It was a careful balancing act of adding some freshness and modernity without throwing away the equity that existed in the old packaging. 

Certain key elements were retained and simply re-worked and others were removed in favour of a more modern form. It was the typography that provided the opportunity to create a fresh new look and distinctive personality for each varietal without having to completely re-invent the framework that it sat within. The varietal typography has always been a recognisable and admired aspect to the Monteith’s range. We chose to reinforce and enhance the personalities of the varietals through the use of new, modern and distinctive typefaces. In the case of the 12-packs, this was taken to a new level where each wordmark took on a new life as a three dimensional physical form created from an environment.

Each beer varietal has it’s own colours, pattern, typeface and photographic texture. These were then  brought together in an organised, consistent Monteith’s masterbrand design system.
